Keto and Joe Rogan

September 2017 my wife and I were at the end of a lovely vacation cruise that ended in New York city. After an awesome couple of days in Manhattan, we proceeded south to visit our oldest son who was/is flying with the USAF on an exchange posting (we are Canadian). While visiting we chatted about various things, diet being one of them. He asked if I had heard anything about a ketogenic diet. Of coarse I had not and he told me to “Google it”. He also said he really enjoyed Joe Rogan’s Podcasts and I should check him out. This began my descent down a very deep rabbit-hole!

If anybody really knows me, they know that when I get into something, I REALLY get into something. Ask my wife. I started Googling and watching the podcast. I watched with ever increasing interest as Joe had on a variety of guests, some of which were doctors, scientists, and investigative journalists. These included Rhonda Patrick, Dom D’agostino, Chris Kresser, and Mark Sisson. This led me to discover others covering similar material such as Tim Noakes (hero!), Gary Taubes, Jason Fung, Zoe Harcombe, Ivor Cummins, and many more.

I proceeded to go onto Amazon and ordered as many books as I could by the above and more. I read and read and read. The more I read and watched the more I came to realize how messed up the government’s dietary guidelines are. Starting Jan 2018, my wife and I adopted a low carb/keto lifestyle and man did things change! I effortlessly lost pounds dropping more than 4″ around my waist and am now back to my high school weight, lightest I’ve ever been as an adult. I felt sharper, slept better, and just had more energy. Afternoon crashes became a thing of the past. I was told again and again how “dangerous” this was. How a diet high in saturated fat was putting me at risk for heart disease because it raised my cholesterol. Time for more research!
