I just read an article about skipping breakfast and/or lunch that put me in a RANTING mood! This article found on IDEAFIT.COM basically is about Intermittent Fasting and how it’s becoming very popular. It suggests that skipping breakfast or lunch may be unhealthy because you will generally consume less calories. As most of you will already know, consistently under consuming calories will lower your basal metabolism which is why cutting calories to lose weight is not sustainable and why “Weight Watchers” is still in business. But is consuming all the calories your body needs in one or two meals ok and even more healthy than eating a bunch of small meals? I believe so.

First, let us establish that the present day dogma is killing us. Conventional wisdom dictates that a high carbohydrate, low fat diet is the healthiest and recommended by most health organizations. The ADA, AHA, and even the WHO are pushing the above mentioned diet and even going as far as promoting a ‘plant based” diet. The question is has this advice worked? Are we as a population in NA more healthy now than when the “low fat” BS started in 1977? The reality is that NO we are not more healthy, we are actually sick and fat and getting sicker and fatter. Today 88% of Americans are metabolically broken. Obesity and type 2 diabetes continue to climb. The proof is all around us. Take a look at your family reunion photos and see what % are overweight. Take a gander at your running/exercise group and see how many of these fit people are overweight. Go out shopping and tell me you hardly ever see obese people. Many think they are good to go because they exercise excessively and just maintain their weight. If you NEED to exercise to maintain your weight, your diet is wrong. The proof that the conventional wisdom is deeply flawed is all around us. I think the only people who can’t see this also believe everything that comes outta FOX news is true. Lol.

Oh, and another thing in all this that bugs me. The above organizations, the FDA, USDA, and the government guidelines are deeply flawed. These recommendations are based on profit not health. Please have a look at who funds these organizations, who sits on their boards, what business ties they have, it’s obvious when you take a little time to do your own research.

Man, this stuff drives me crazy! The best advice I have come across is simply avoid sugar, highly processed junk (grains, fast food, etc.), and industrial vegetable oils. All toxic! I’ve seen amazing results through my company, Harper Primal Health. I’ve seen people come off all kinds of medications by simply changing their diet to one high in quality animal products and eliminating the above mentioned toxic three! If you still think saturated fat and cholesterol are your enemies, think again. There is all kinds of proof out there that I’ve already touched on in prior posts. As always, stay safe and stay healthy. Very simple changes can make huge differences in our health and happiness.
